Insider Guides: Paradise Appreciation with Jade Webster

HELLO! TELL THE READERS ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT WAS IT LIKE GROWING UP ON THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF PARADISE?

Hello! I’m Jade Webster and I am extremely lucky to call the Cayman Islands home! Born in the '90’s to a Scottish mum and a Caymanian dad. My younger sister and I didn’t particularly grow up in a district, as we seemed to move quite a bit. Growing up in the Cayman Islands was and still is pretty amazing!

SO TELL US, WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT LIVING ON ISLAND?

When I was younger and fresh out of high school I was so eager to pack my bags and travel the world! However, my husband and I recently moved to Toronto, Canada, and it wasn’t until we were stuck indoors for more than 6 months in the brutally cold winter that I realized how much I loved and missed my little island in the sun. Let’s just say since this, we have come to really appreciate it.

If I had to choose a handful of my favourite things it would literally be “island life” from the beaches to the chickens crossing the road. It’s the simple things that make this place so special.

WHAT ABOUT THE WORST? EVERYONE HAS A LITTLE PET PEEVE, NO?

After mentioning the cold weather in Toronto, I’m not sure I should have a pet peeve! But if I must, I’d say the lack of conservation. The Cayman Islands has so much to offer and it is scary how quickly things are disappearing.

WHERE ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE PLACES TO GO ON YOUR DAY OFF AND WHY?

The beach! Sunshine Suites, because of the island’s best fish tacos, and I'm pretty much there every Saturday! Recently I made a commitment to explore this little island much more, and last weekend we discovered a pretty unique beach spot in East End after a much needed coffee at Kaibo Espresso.

‘Sorry for what I said when I was hangry!’ I love food, I love trying new dishes at new restaurants or even established restaurants; pretty much any restaurant! With the Cayman Islands being the culinary capital of the Caribbean, there are some amazing ‘must-visit’ restaurants and this is why it is so hard to pick three, but, if I must I would say Sunshine Suites because tacos, PDs because their wings are to die for and Grape Tree Café because who doesn’t like fried fish and fritters!

ANY COOL ACTIVITIES YOU CAN SHARE WITH US AROUND THE ISLAND?

I’d definitely recommend visiting as many restaurants as you can because Cayman has delicious food. Go parasailing, horseback riding on the beach, take a drive up to North Side for Rum Point’s famous mudslides and cover as many beaches as you can!

WHAT ABOUT THOSE HIDDEN GEMS? BEACHES, BARS, RESTAURANTS? TELL US YOUR SECRETS…

Cayman is full of hidden gems, so you better get exploring…

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE SHOPPING? YOU CARE TO SHARE?

There are lots of boutiques on Island, my most recent discovery is Funky Monkey in Governor’s Square!
