No, it's not always sunny, but the Cayman Islands do enjoy a very warm, tropical climate year-round, with temperatures reaching up to 91°F in the summer months. Generally, May to October is the rainy season with a few short showers, followed by clear sunny skies and a cool breeze. Hurricane season runs from June-November, the National Weather Service gives plenty of warning if a storm is on its way.

Local stores and news outlets do a good job of making sure you know how to stock up for the season in preparation for the worst.

With more than 100 different nationalities present on the islands, there's a fascinating mixture of traditions and customs. One of the biggest draws for expats and visitors is Cayman's low crime rate - one of the lowest in the Caribbean. Once you spend some time on the island you'll experience what Caymanians call, 'Caymankind'. Rated by Forbes as one of the friendliest countries in the world, Caymanians are welcoming, open and kind.

English is the official language with Jamaican patois and Spanish being spoken among some residents.

Cayman has a rich history and heritage, with traditions such as rope thatching & building catboats, which you can still see today.

Moving abroad can be stressful for many reasons. You're leaving a lot behind. Your family, friends, previous job, and a familiarity of your surroundings that makes you comfortable in life. But with the right tools and the right mindset, settling into your new life can be an incredible experience.

Before making the move, it is a good idea to do the proper research and planning. You should already have your work permit sorted, and hopefully even your accommodations taken care of. If you've already decided on your method of transportation, you're way ahead of most people. These are really the most important components of your move, so just relax and make other minor adjustments as they arise.

Luckily, moving to Cayman can be far less stressful than moving to most other nations. The weather is fantastic, people are friendly, it's generally a safe place to be, and as long as you speak fluent English, the transition should be swift. If you come from a fast paced urban environment, your most significant psychological transition may be dealing with the slower island pace, which is not a terrible problem to have.

So take a few deep breaths, and enjoy the ride. You're moving to paradise after all.

Both variable and fixed rate mortgages are available in the Cayman Islands and can range from 1-3% above the base rate.

Lenders will take into account your occupation, credit history, annual income as well as taking into consideration immigration status.

A number of banks in Cayman offer competitive rates for mortgages, if the application is relatively simple it can be processed within weeks.

According to CIREBA.com, stamp duty rate on all three Cayman Islands is 7.5% on the purchase price (also termed the consideration) or the market value of the property, whichever is higher. Stamp duty is calculated in $CI.
