Island Life Diaries: Deana Kapiskosky

1. Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Maryland  and then I moved to Cayman after living in Manhattan for 13 years.

2. Why did you move from the comfort of your homeland?

New York City, as most know, is all about the hustle and bustle.  I was working 16 hour days at a record label spending 9-5 in my office and not getting home until after midnight most of the time after recruiting bands night after night. Eventually, when my golden birthday hit, I came to Cayman to visit my best friend Kiristen Cousins, and at that moment knew I needed to take a break and move to paradise for a little bit! The rest is history :)

3. What made you choose Cayman?

I had a best friend living here and JFK offers direct, affordable flights.  After visiting about five times before actually taking the leap, I had made so many wonderful friends that I was ready to create a new chapter.

4. What was the biggest challenge you faced when you arrived?

My biggest challenge was my first job. I worked as a radio DJ for SPIN FM and hosted their morning drive show. Working in a new country along with learning the challenges of radio was difficult, but once I got the hang of it, I LOVED waking up everyday to do my job. Music is such a large part of who I am.

5. What surprised you the most about Cayman?

How absolutely nice and kind everyone is. Cayman is truly Cayman Kind. Locals and expats all feel like family and that alone says a lot about this community. On the down side, the cost of groceries makes me want to pull my hair out :).

6. What do you think is the most unique thing about this island?

Its beauty and its beaches!

7. What do you love most about living in Cayman?

Waking up to the beauty of Seven Mile Beach. The warm weather is like a soft blanket every day, and the way we get  to spend our weekends - boating, swimming with stingrays and surrounded by the people we love the most!
