Island Life Diaries: Britta Bush

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF, BRITTA!

I arrived in Cayman 13 years ago as a dive instructor, living and working in the EE, with no car for the first 3 years!  Originally born in Colorado to American Father and German Mother, spent my childhood growing up in Germany, then latter years in Ohio. After stints in Arizona and Mexico, I accidentally settled in the Cayman Islands :) Now married to a West Bay Bush, with a 3-year old son, dog, cat, and plant menagerie.

TELL US WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON YOUR DAYS OFF?

Beach! Spend time with friends; be outside! Pre-child and multiple businesses, I used to kiteboard and surf, and look forward to getting back into it.

BEACH SOUNDS AMAZING! SO WHAT DO YOU DO ON ISLAND?

I am the chef and manager for Saucha, and the newly opened Conscious Cafe.  I have been brewing kombucha for over 10 years and co-founded Saucha in 2013.  We offer meal delivery, kombucha, green popcorn, catering, cooking classes, and private chef services.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING GREAT IN YOUR COMMUNITY! WHAT'S THE BEST THING YOU CAN TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EXPERIENCE AND WORK?

The connections I make with farmers, community members, and others passionate about eating local food.  I go to the market every Wednesday and Saturday so I can hand select the produce we use, and also know how the season is going.  What's coming up, what is 'sick', and what is about to end.

TOP 3 PLACES YOU WOULD RECOMMEND TO GET A GOOD MEAL?

(This is really tough)  Morgan's, Agave, and Cracked Conch.

WHAT ABOUT THINGS TO DO IN THE EARLY MORNING? WHAT ARE SOME HIDDEN GEMS YOU WANT TO SHARE?

Simply, go for a beach walk.

HOW ABOUT A SUNSET DRINK? WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE VISITORS?

Calico's as long as I can!  Shame to see it leave its institutional location. Or Macabuca!!

BEST THING ABOUT CAYMAN?

That Sunday is a sacred day, and many locals head to the beach.
